Our Mission
The Texas Tenants Rights Hub is an independent legal information resource dedicated to helping Texas renters understand their rights under state and federal law. We believe that access to accurate legal information shouldn't depend on how much money you have or whether you can afford an attorney — every Texas renter deserves to know the law.
We publish plain-language guides on the Texas Property Code, eviction law, security deposit rules, repair obligations, and more — written to be readable by anyone, not just lawyers.
Who We Are
The Texas Tenants Rights Hub is an independent publication. Our editorial team researches Texas Property Code provisions, reviews relevant case law, and works to ensure that every article we publish accurately reflects current Texas law. We update our guides regularly as laws change.
We are not a law firm. We do not provide legal advice and do not represent clients. Our guides are general educational resources — for advice about your specific legal situation, we always recommend consulting a licensed Texas attorney.
Editorial Standards
We hold ourselves to high editorial standards because the stakes are real — a Texas renter who acts on bad legal information can lose their home, their security deposit, or their legal standing. Here's how we work:
- Primary sources first. Every guide is grounded in the actual text of the Texas Property Code, not summaries of summaries. We cite specific statute sections so readers can verify information themselves.
- No paywalls, no gates. All content on this site is freely accessible. We will never put our guides behind a paywall or require an email address to read our articles.
- Regular updates. Texas law changes. We review and update our guides to reflect legislative changes, significant court decisions, and regulatory updates.
- Clear disclaimers. We are transparent that our content is general information, not legal advice. We never encourage readers to act without understanding their specific situation.
- No affiliate relationships with specific attorneys. We do not accept referral fees or commissions for recommending specific legal service providers.
Why This Site Exists
Texas has one of the largest renter populations in the United States — millions of households rent their homes across the state, from Houston apartment complexes to small-town rental houses. Many of those renters face disputes with landlords every year over security deposits, evictions, repairs, and habitability. Yet access to accurate, free legal information has historically been hard to find.
Legal aid organizations do critical work, but they cannot reach everyone who needs help. Texas Tenants Rights Hub exists to fill that gap — providing accurate, accessible legal information to any Texas renter who needs it, 24 hours a day, for free.

We welcome corrections, suggestions, and questions about our content. If you've identified an error in one of our articles — a changed statute, an incorrect citation, an outdated rule — please let us know and we'll review and update promptly.
We are not able to provide legal advice or answer questions about individual situations. For legal advice, please contact a licensed Texas attorney or a legal aid organization in your area.
